August Family Meal Plan + Free Printable Calendar
One of the best ways I’ve found to simplify dinner each week is by planning our meals for the entire month.
Do we follow our meal plan perfectly? Not always! Life happens, schedules change, and sometimes we swap meals around. But having a plan means less stress, fewer last-minute grocery trips, and far less time standing in front of the refrigerator wondering what’s for dinner.
Each month I share our family’s real meal plan along with a free blank calendar you can customize for your own family.
Whether you follow our menu exactly or simply use it for inspiration, I hope it helps make your month a little easier.
Why I Plan an Entire Month at a Time
Planning a month’s worth of meals has completely changed the way I manage our kitchen.
It helps me:
- Reduce decision fatigue
- Save time during busy weeks
- Make fewer grocery trips – I usually do one big order for my non perishables and then my produce or fresh meats I’ll get closer to when they’re needed.
- Use ingredients more efficiently
- Plan around our family schedule
- Reduce food waste by intentionally scheduling leftovers
Instead of creating a brand-new meal plan every week, I spend a little time once each month and enjoy the benefits all month long.
Our Weekly Meal Themes
One of my favorite meal-planning tricks is assigning each day a theme. It narrows the choices without making dinner repetitive.
Monday – Breakfast for Dinner
Pancakes, waffles, biscuits and gravy, breakfast burritos, or crepes.
Tuesday – Taco (or Tater) Tuesday
Mexican-inspired meals, baked potatoes, casseroles, or nachos.
Wednesday – Whatever Wednesday
This is my flexible night. It’s perfect for trying new recipes, repeating family favorites, or making meals that don’t fit another category.
Thursday – Pasta Night
Spaghetti, lasagna, baked pasta, macaroni dishes, and noodle recipes all fit here.
Friday – Family Dinner
We usually enjoy dinner with family.
Saturday – Dad Cooks
Thomas usually fires up the grill or smoker and takes over dinner.
Sunday – Leftovers
Scheduling leftovers helps us reduce food waste and gives everyone an easy night.
