Rich, smooth homemade brown gravy made in just minutes using Homemade Brown Gravy Dry Mix. No gravy packets or pan drippings needed—perfect over mashed potatoes, meatloaf, roast beef, and more.

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon beef bouillon powder
  • ¾ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¾ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¾ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon dried parsley
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cups cold beef broth (or water)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, beef bouillon powder, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and dried parsley until well combined.
  2. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  3. Sprinkle the dry mixture into the melted butter and whisk constantly for 1–2 minutes, until the mixture is smooth and bubbly.
  4. Slowly pour in the beef broth (or water), whisking continuously to prevent lumps.
  5. Continue cooking, whisking frequently, until the gravy comes to a gentle simmer and thickens to your desired consistency, about 3–5 minutes.
  6. Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Cooking the flour mixture in the butter for a minute or two helps develop a richer, deeper flavor.
  • Add the broth slowly while whisking continuously for the smoothest gravy.
  • If the gravy becomes too thick, whisk in a little additional broth or water.
  • If you make homemade gravy often, save time by preparing a batch of my Homemade Brown Gravy Dry Mix and storing it in an airtight container. Then you’ll only need to measure the mix, melt the butter, and add the broth for a quick batch of gravy.
