This fresh homemade guacamole is creamy, chunky, and packed with ripe avocados, juicy tomatoes, crisp red onion, fresh cilantro, and lime juice. It comes together in about 10 minutes and is perfect for taco night, parties, or serving with tortilla chips.

Ingredients

  • 4 ripe Hass avocados
  • 1 medium Roma tomato, seeded and diced
  • ⅓ cup finely diced red onion
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 medium jalapeño, seeded and finely minced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • Juice of 1½ limes (about 3 TBSP)
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp ground cumin
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • Chef’s knife – For dicing the vegetables.
  • Cutting board – Makes prep quick and organized.
  • Citrus juicer – Gets the most juice from your limes.
  • Medium mixing bowl – For combining the ingredients.
  • Fork or potato masher – Mashes the avocado while keeping it chunky.
  • Rubber spatula or large spoon – For gently folding everything together.

Instructions

  1. Cut the avocados in half, remove the pits, and scoop the flesh into a medium mixing bowl.
  2. Mash the avocados with a fork until mostly smooth, leaving some chunks for texture.
  3. Stir in the diced tomato, red onion, cilantro, jalapeño (if using), and minced garlic.
  4. Add the lime juice, kosher salt, garlic powder, cumin, black pepper, and cayenne pepper, if desired.
  5. Fold everything together until evenly combined, being careful not to overmix.
  6. Taste and adjust with additional lime juice or salt if needed.
  7. Serve immediately with tortilla chips or alongside tacos, burritos, nachos, quesadillas, or grilled meats.

Notes

  • Use ripe avocados that yield slightly when gently squeezed.
  • Remove the tomato seeds to keep the guacamole from becoming watery.
  • Finely dice the onion so every bite has balanced flavor.
  • For a spicier guacamole, leave some jalapeño seeds in or add another jalapeño.
  • Fresh lime juice gives the best flavor and helps slow browning.
  • Press plastic wrap directly onto the surface before refrigerating to minimize oxidation.
  • Best enjoyed the day it’s made, but leftovers will keep refrigerated for up to 2 days.
